The Selfie Epidemic

Flawless skin. Larger eyes. Thinner bone structure. The Selfie Culture has created a false sense of reality, putting increased pressure on aesthetic providers to recreate an unattainable image. Call it ‘The Filtered and the Damned.’

I have witnessed this phenomenon firsthand. In many cases, the filter-friendly patient is younger, and has matured with enough editing tools and apps to project their perfect self. Often times though, perfection is a misleading illusion that creates erroneous beliefs in what is possible, what can be done, and what should be done to reach beauty goals.

The mantra of my practice is “look fresh, not frozen™” and much of my time is spent in consultation, educating my patients. When done correctly, Botox, fillers, and other cosmetic procedures can make someone look more youthful in a natural way. The end result is the best version of an individual’s real self, not a filtered ideal.

Studies have shown selfies make individuals feel more anxious, less confident, and less physically attractive. The goal of my practice is the opposite. At Miami Beach Laser and Aesthetics, I want to put a patient’s best, most real, face forward and help to develop outer and inner beauty.
