10 Skin Care Tips To Look Young After 25

In our mid-20’s, aging starts to show through our skin. We find dullness, dryness, enlarged pores, dark circles, pigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles that we didn’t have a few years back. As we age, our skin needs more than just cleansing and moisturizing. It requires a solid routine with steps that ensure it gets all the amazing stuff it needs to slow the aging process. So, we compiled 10 skin care tips to keep you looking young after 25!

  1. Start your skin care routine with a good cleanser – The first step to healthy, beautiful skin is cleansing. You must clean your face twice a day (in the morning and before going to bed), using a cleanser that suits your skin type. We recommend the Obagi Foaming Gel, which is perfect for any skin type and thoroughly removes makeup, dirt, and oil, so there is no need to double cleanse. An effective cleanser removes all the impurities on your face with one wash.  Do not go to bed at night without washing off your makeup and the day’s impurities.
  1. Tone your face – Once your face is clean, a toner is used to close and tighten pores to avoid penetration of impurities into your skin.  Even something as simple as rose water is nice for this second step.
  1. Add a facial serum to your routine – Serums are great for addressing skin concerns and overall prevention due to their molecules, which penetrate deep into your skin. Serums such as hyaluronic acid help with hydrating your skin and vitamin C helps with brightening and protection against free-radicals. Be sure to choose what’s best for your skin type and concern.  We love Pure Hydration Hyaluronic Acid Serum by Replenix and Obagi’s Professional-C Serum in 10, 15, or 20%.
  1. Moisturizing your face is a must – Hydrating your skin is important because it helps prevent it from aging.  It is a common misconception that people with oily skin don’t need moisturizer. Everyone needs to moisturize their face, no matter what skin type they have. It’s a key step in everyone’s routine to keep skin nourished and hydrated.  A moisturizer with antioxidants is ideal because it also boosts the effect of your sunscreen.  The Replenix Power of 3 Cream with Green Tea is a top-seller in our practice.
  1. Choose a great eye cream – Eye cream should be incorporated into a daily skin care regimen, especially for people in their mid to late 20’s and older. It hydrates, prevents wrinkles and pigment, and firms the skin around the delicate eye area. Our favorites are Alastin Restorative Eye Treatment and Neostrata Intensive Eye Therapy.  You should use your eye cream every morning and every night and apply with your ring finger.
  1. Sunblock should never be skipped – This is probably the most important step in everyone’s skin care routine. As we all know, UVA and UVB rays cause aging, dark spots, and skin cancer, so it is a must to wear sunblock daily, whether you are indoors or outdoors. Be sure to reapply SPF every 2-3 hrs if you are sweating or swimming.  It must be a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or above.  Don’t forget your hat on the way out the door as well!
  1. Have a facial every 4 to 8 weeks – Facials are a great way to assess your skin’s health and status from a professional’s point of view.  An aesthetician can give your skin that extra boost and ensure that all impurities are extracted from your pores. It’s a nice way to pamper your skin and yourself!
  1. A good diet and regular exercise – Another secret to great skin is proper nutrition and exercise. Consume foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables. Keep your body hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day. Try your best to avoid sugary foods, which can cause breakouts and speed up skin aging by breaking down collagen. Exercise regularly to promote a healthy blood circulation and to sweat toxins from your body.
  1. Use Retinol at night – Renew skin and diminish the appearance of fine lines by using Retinol (a form of vitamin A) every night.  It promotes cell turnover and stimulates collagen production, along with improving skin discoloration and blemishes.
  1.  Don’t forget about your neck – Now that you have a daily regimen for your face, don’t make your neck an afterthought.  A neck cream helps with tightening and firming of the skin in this area and prevents sagging and wrinkling.  Our favorite is the Triple Firming Neck Cream by Neostrata.  Use it morning and night daily to nourish and hydrate your neck.
